Kerajaan persekutuan menaikkan tarif elektrik dengan purata 7.12 peratus bermula 1 Jun ini sebagai sebahagian daripada pengurangan subsidi.
Sementara gas asli pula dinaikkan RM3 setiap mmBtu setiap enam bulan sehingga mencecah harga pasaran pada 2016, apabila harganya diapung sepenuhnya.Menteri Tenaga, Teknologi Hijau dan Air Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui berkata, seramai 44.4 juta atau 75 peratus dariapada keseluruhan 5.94 juta isi rumah tidak akan terjejas dengan tarif baru ini.
Bagi yang menggunakan 301kW hingga 1000kW, tarif dinaikkan daripada 0.1 peratus hingga 10 peratus, atau RM0.07 kepada RM30.30.
Pelepasan bil elektrik untuk pengguna yang menggunakan kurang daripada RM20 sebulan akan tamat pada Disember 2011.
Sementara itu, Bernama melaporkan, dalam pengumuman bersama Peter dan Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, mereka berkata kenaikan itu disebabkan oleh peningkatan harga gas asli untuk sektor tenaga.

If you don't raise the tariff you can't float the gas price.
DAP has been yelling for the gas subsidy to TNB and IPP be scraped.
So now you do a plan to get rid off gas subsidy. Naturally you have to pass the cost to the end consumer.
So at the end of the day, consumer i.e your rakyat i.e. voters get mad at you and vote for DAP because their cost of living naik.
IF the government maintain the gas subsidy to TNB and IPP which is about RM 19billion, DAP will continue to harp on it, and you will still lost voters because of that.
No one says its easy to govern.
Hope the Malaysian will be matured enough to move forward as we let the market forces decides our cost of living. WE will lost some votes along the way because of it.
Its worth it because 20 years from now our children or grandchildren will reap the benefits of lower cost of good and services, and together with higher wages we shall be one of the best country to live in the world.
